Bocachica is the most populated district on the island of Tierrabomba, home to about 11,000 residents, most of them Afro-descendants, who live mainly from fishing and tourism linked to the area’s main historical and cultural landmark: an exceptional colonial defensive fortification complex, remarkably well preserved, made up primarily of the forts of San Fernando and San José and the Ángel San Rafael Battery.

Bocachica features beaches with calm, crystal-clear waters and an accommodation and dining infrastructure focused more on local, small-scale services (such as cabins, small hostels, and traditional cuisine), catering to visitors seeking experiences closer to ecotourism, a deeper connection with the island, its culture and local residents, as well as nature and history.
