Bocagrande began its development in 1940, following an economic and demographic boom in the city, becoming a residential area. It is currently home to luxury hotels, shopping centers, and modern buildings, which together create an impressive yet harmonious skyline. Among them are the two tallest skyscrapers in the city, the Estelar Hotel and the Hyatt Tower.
Bocagrande is one of the preferred areas for national tourism to stay overnight due to its proximity to the historic center, its modern commercial and hotel infrastructure, and its urban beach lined with palm trees and featuring excellent places to eat and drink, such as beach bars and seaside restaurants, locally known as kioskos.
The beach is frequented by a large number of street vendors, local artisans and women offering massages and traditional braiding.
- As in the rest of the city, access to the beach for swimmers is until 6 p.m.
- A single point of access and exit from Bocagrande may present vehicular congestion.
