The largest square in Cartagena and former parade ground. The founder of the city, Don Pedro de Heredia, lived there. It has had different names throughout its history, originally "plaza del mar", then "plaza de la contaduría", it was renamed plaza de la aduana when the customs administration was organized there. After a statue of Columbus was erected in marble, it was called "Plaza Colón" and in 1894, Plaza de Rafael Núñez after the death of the then president of Colombia, but people continued to call it Plaza De La Aduana.
Located in the historic center. A few meters from the Plaza de los coches and the clock tower. The mayor's office of Cartagena is located there.
Architecturally it alternates: colonial constructions and arches, columns and balconies, with buildings from the 1930s.
