Fortification on the San Lázaro hill built in 1536 and enlarged in 1639 and 1657. It is rumored that the stone blocks that support it were extracted from the coral reefs of the coast, and carried by slaves to the hill. This place suffered several attacks by the English and the French. Today it is one of the most attractive tourist sites in Cartagena and UNESCO included it as a World Heritage Site.

Imposing geometric structure whose exterior is reminiscent of the walls. It is surrounded by outdoor gardens and has 63 canyons. Its interior is of classic Spanish military architecture with Renaissance style sentry boxes. It has corridors, shelters and tunnels of more than 600 meters in length. The batteries, the cistern and the residences have been preserved.
