The waters of Barbacoas Bay, located north of the Baru Peninsula, bathe the city of Cartagena. It is the habitat of the largest mangrove forests in Colombia and a preservation zone for marine species such as the hawksbill turtle. The town of Santa Ana is the main inhabited area of the bay, with a fishing community that is also dedicated to agriculture.
One of the outlets of the Canal del Dique (which connects the Caribbean Sea with Colombia’s largest river, the Magdalena).
