Santander Avenue is one of the most iconic roads in the city, as one of its main sections offers, on one side, a view of the sea and on the other, a view of the city walls. It is also the first road usually used by those arriving by air to the city, as it is the natural exit from the Crespo neighborhood (where the airport is located) to the Historic Center and Bocagrande, as well as to the Northern Zone. The avenue has two lanes in each direction (three in some sections towards the historic center).
During the festivities of Cartagena, Santander Avenue becomes one of the epicenters of the city, since the traditional parade of the day of the Bando or Independence Day parade takes place there. Its 7.5-kilometer layout and route runs entirely along the seafront, although some sections are beaches, and others are seawalls and jetties where bathing is not allowed, but where it is common to find amateur fishermen.
