Located in the municipality of Santa Catalina, on the border between the departments of Bolivar and Atlántico, the Totumo is actually a pseudo-volcano approximately 15 meters high, in whose crater, which can be reached by a wooden staircase, you can take therapeutic mud baths. Legend has it that it was an active volcano until a Catholic priest poured holy water into its crater to rid the community of any possible evil.
It is a high flow tourist attraction, with day plans on visits from Cartagena to take mud baths for therapeutic purposes and check out the impossibility of sinking. The volcano offers a 360 degree view of the surrounding areas and the Totumo swamp. It is managed by the local community, who make a living by offering services to tourists such as massages, souvenirs, hydration and meals.
